Varley offers an extensive range of cutting-edge rail products, catering to diverse needs and ensuring unparalleled performance and safety.
Kwik-drop System
The KWIK-DROP system is a mechanical door operating system used in parallel with the automated discharge door operation of railway hopper wagons on the move.
Varley supplies the patented KWIK-DROP system.
Key Advantages
- Eliminates high maintenance door pneumatic system on wagons
- Pneumatic system required for triggers at dumping
- Terminal only
- Reduced capital cost of new wagons
- Reduced ongoing maintenance cost
- Reduced tare mass contributing to fuel economy while travelling empty and increased payload when loaded
- Positive door operation using energy of train motion
- Increased door security from larger over-centre locking than air operated doors
- Automatic operation in both opening and closing eliminates requirement for operators at track side, in dust laden atmosphere and close to a moving train
- Enhanced workplace health and safety for terminal personnel
- Can coexist with other operating systems
- Suitable for most types of bulk material
Applications
With wagons marshalled uni-directionally and traveling through the dumping terminal, wagon doors are automatically tripped open in sequence as they pass the opening trigger at the start of the bin and tripped close as they pass the closing trigger at the end of the bin.
The higher capacity of a longer bin can be accessed with the use of two or more opening triggers. The system has been proven in reliable service in many terminals since 1993.
Automated Discharge Doors
Varley Services is well known for its expertise in the design, manufacture and installation of bulk material discharge door systems.
Many of Varley’s products are custom designed for the specific needs of the client including:
- New discharge door systems
- Conversion of existing manual doors to automated pneumatic doors system
- Conversion of existing discharge door system for transport of alternative products
- Refurbishment and rebuild of existing discharge door systems.
Key Features
Varley can provide a full design, manufacture and installation service or alternatively the door systems or conversions may be supplied as individual kits to customer specifications.
A unique operator control system developed by Varley engineers provides a tamper proof mechanism preventing unauthorised operation of discharge doors.
Applications
Heavy duty discharge door systems have been utilised for a number of bulk product hopper freight vehicles including the following applications:
- Grain discharge gate door system
- Heavy and fine aggregate products
- Fine mineral sands
- Coal
- Other Dry Bulk Commodities
Automated Top Hatch System
The Varley Automated Top Hatch system is an innovative design to allow safe operation of top loading hatches on bulk material hopper wagons.
An installation service, to fit the hatch system to existing wagons is also provided by Varley. Alternatively, the hatch and control system may be supplied as individual kits to customer specifications. Varley can also provide full design services to develop specialised systems for specific application.
Key Features
The system allows operation of the loading hatch to be carried out from ground level eliminating the requirement for operators to climb onto the wagon top.
The system can be easily retrofitted to most hopper style wagons and provides a weather proof seal to the external environment. The light weight and sturdy construction of the hatch minimizes the impact to the tare weight of the wagon, whilst providing high reliability.
Applications
Heavy duty automated top hatch systems have been utilised for a number of bulk product hopper freight vehicles including the following application:
- Grain discharge gate door system
- Heavy and fine aggregate products
- Fine mineral sands
- Other Dry Bulk Commodities
Specifications
The hatch system is pneumatically operated through the main reservoir pipe of the wagon. Individual air reservoirs mounted on each wagon provide a reserve of air pressure if the wagons are not connected to the locomotive. Workshop supply connections are also located on each wagons should an external air supply be required to charge the air system.
The hatch is provided with a safety interlock mechanism preventing the hatch from being blown open by wind whilst the air supply is not connected. Extensive type testing has been carried out by Varley including wind testing up to 120km per hour.
A unique operator control system developed by Varley engineering provides a tamper proof mechanism preventing unauthorised operation of the hatch.
Multi-purpose Tool Carrier RH4
The RH4 Multi-Purpose Tool Carrier is a versatile handling machine specially built for railway construction and maintenance work, and can also be used in multiple operations from mining and agriculture to road maintenance.
Key Features
- Slewing capabilities not found in conventional machines of this type
- 4 wheel steering (CRAB, all wheel steer: front and rear) selectable from dash panel
- 4 pin planetary axels increases durability
- Axle stablisation on rear axle gives stability during over the side operations
- Air conditioned and pressurized cabin for operating in harsh environments.
Applications
- A combination of four wheel drive, four wheel steer, height ground clearance and power-shift transmission provides a high degree of manoeuvrability and rough terrain ability.
- The ability to fit a number of different attachments to the quick hitch enables the machine to perform a large number of different functions.
- When fitted with a crane jib attachment, the machine can handle up to the largest size rail in length to 100 meters with ease, whether it be lifting, pushing or dragging. When fitted with the fork attachment, the machine becomes a versatile all terrain fork-lfit with the ability to operate over the side. Alternatively, when fitted with a Loader Bucket attachment, the machine becomes a front end loaded with the ability to operate over the side.
