Victor Ugarte
CEO, Varley Defence
Victor is a professional engineer with a Mechanical Engineering degree and a Master’s in Engineering Science. He has been involved in ADF projects since 1995, starting as a Project Design Engineer. He became CEO of Varley Defence in 2018, focusing on growing the business and delivering significant defence projects.
Richard Pope
Engineering Manager
Richard is a professional Mechanical Engineer holding an Honours Degree in Engineering. Employed by Varley since 2004, he has extensive experience in designing and validating aircraft ground support equipment, deployable shelters, and specialised transportation systems. He has been Varley Defence’s Engineering Manager since 2007.
Mark Townsend
Bid Manager
Mark has been with Varley for 15 years, starting as Engineering Manager for the Land 121 LLC project, then Project Manager for the Land 121 MHC project, and now Bid Manager. His extensive experience includes project management, engineering, and sales support roles in the delivery of defence acquisition and sustainment products and services.
Matt Woolley
Manager of Defence Projects
Matt is an experienced Program and Project Manager with a Master of Project Management degree. Employed by Varley since 2018, he has managed complex defence projects, overseeing project governance, lifecycle management, cost and scope management, and risk management. He was appointed as Manager of Defence Projects in May 2021.
Stuart Morse
General manager, IDES
Stuart is a professional Mechanical Engineer holding an Honours Degree in Engineering and an Advanced Diploma in Automotive Design & Development.
Starting in 2016 at Varley’s Melbourne subsidiary, Integrated Design and Engineering Solutions (IDES) Stuart Morse took over as General Manager in 2018, off the back of the successful management & delivery of IDES’ Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) program.
He has extensive experience in vehicle design & development with various Vehicle OEM’s, and has a passion for continuous improvement and quality driven procedures & processes.
Olav Groot
CEO, Norship
Olav Groot (MSc, TFIEAust, RPEQ, CENG, GAICD) has a passion for maritime and advanced manufacturing industries. Olav is the Chief Executive Officer for Norship, overseeing the provision of all aspects of ‘In Service Support’ and ‘Through Life Asset Management Services’ in the Australasian / Asia Pacific region in the maritime domain for the Varley Group.
